Running Costs

Value for money doesn't stop with the purchase price

The Picanto is Kia's smallest and least expensive car in the UK, and value for money is one of the key factors in its increasing sales success. With Kia, value for money does not end with the extensive standard equipment and competitive pricing: it also encompasses every aspect of ownership, including daily running costs, money-saving servicing packages and measures to ensure cars are easy to repair to keep down insurance rates.

All three engines are small-capacity units which are sparing with fuel, and the two MPi units have been extensively re-engineered to make them even more so: economy is up to 64.2mpg. For the relatively small but highly important number of business users, emissions are also low to minimise company car taxation. CO2 now starts at just 101g/km for the 1.0-litre MPi engine.

Most owners should need to take the car in for routine maintenance only once a year and there are three- and five-year servicing packages for retail customers, who make up more than 80 per cent of the customer base. Meanwhile, the tough new platform and body has been designed with ease of repair in mind to minimise insurance costs.

All-inclusive servicing

Servicing is required every 10,000 miles or once a year, whichever comes sooner, and retail customers are able to take advantage of the Care-3 and Care-3 Plus packages, which cover the first three or five services for a low fixed price. All labour and routine replacement parts and fluids are included. Work is carried out by trained product technicians using genuine Kia replacement parts and specified oils. Like the seven-year warranty, the servicing packages stay with the car, so are fully transferable to another customer.

Warranty and support

Kia set a new benchmark in 2007 when it launched the cee'd with an industry-best seven-year warranty. That demonstration of faith in the quality and reliability of Kia products was subsequently extended to every model.

A major benefit is that it is transferable to subsequent owners at no charge as long as the seven-year time limit has not been reached and the mileage is below 100,000.

The mechanical warranty is supported by a 12-year anti-perforation warranty and a five-year paint warranty plus one-year Europe-wide roadside assistance through KiaAssist.
